Researchers
have found singing can take some of the pain out of being sick. Sunny Hadder,
a music therapist, says music can elicist verbalization, increase relaxation
and comfort levels, reduce blood pressure, fear, stress and pain perception
and increase self-worth and control while hospitalized.
"It's much more
than merely singing to a patient, and it does a lot more than entertain."
Each day, Hadder loads up her cart with musical instruments and activities
and heads off to see patients in the hospital.
The research
has shown health benefits of variety of musical experiences, Hadder said.
