LA CROSSE, Wis., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin physician delivered four sets of twins during his 24-hour shift last week, an medical oddity he labeled "astronomical."
"I don't think I ever delivered two sets of twins on a call day," said Dr. Ken Merkitch, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for 19 years.
"The odds of this happening are astronomical. It was hard to believe that everything was coming in twos."
In all, Merkitch delivered nine babies in 24 hours during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the La Crosse (Wis.) Tribune Reported.
"Everything went real well in all four deliveries," Merkitch told the newspaper. "You (have) got to blame this on the turkey or the cranberry sauce the day before."
