As the school
year begins, the Vision Council of America (VCA) hopes that you will take
this opportunity to enlighten your readers on of the most effective ways
to prepare children both academically and physically.
Nearly 10 million
children (one in four) in the United States will go back to school this
fall with an undetected vision problem that can interfere with learning. The
best way to avoid this is for parents to schedule a comprehensive eye exam
for their children with an eye care professional.
This is different
than a vision screening used by a pediatrician or a school nurse. Vision
screenings only detect 5% of all vision problems. Did you know that
there was a difference? Neither did nearly 1/2 of the parents surveyed
by the VCA.
