WASHINGTON, May 5 (UPI) -- Dr. Seuss's "Green Eggs and Ham" is the most popular book amongst first-graders in the United States, an online survey suggested.
More than 3 million children participated in the study on the Renaissance Learning Web site, The Washington Post reported Monday.
Laura Numeroff's "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" was No. 1 with second-graders, while E.B. White's "Charlotte's Web" was the favorite amongst third-graders, Judy Blume's
"Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" scored big with fourth-graders and Katherine Paterson's "Bridge to Terabithia" was tops with fifth-graders.
Gary Paulsen's "Hatchet" was most the popular read amongst sixth-graders, while S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders" ranked No. 1 with seventh- and eighth-graders. Harper Lee's
"To Kill a Mockingbird" was the favorite book of ninth- through 12th-graders, the Post said.
