Fitness craze extends to dogs and cats

NEW YORK, March 31 (UPI) -- A U.S. pet-care company says there is more to training a fit dog or cat than simply "roll-over" and "beg."

Paul Mann, CEO of FETCH! Pet Care, says his employees play the role of personal trainers to pets that need to receive regular exercise to avoid becoming fat and flabby sofa lumps.

"Despite how much they love and provide for their pet, many owners apparently overlook exercise as a fundamental way to foster their dog's or cat's happiness, overall well-being and longevity," Mann said in a press release Monday. "Or they simply don't have the time to properly exercise their pet on a regular basis."

Mann said exercise keeps dogs and cats in good physical condition and can also blow off steam that would otherwise be acted out as grumpiness, nervousness and insomnia.
