Alcohol may increase prostate risk

SYDNEY, March 13 (UPI) -- Australian researchers say drinking two or more alcoholic drinks a day increases a man's risk of prostate cancer by 20 percent.

The National Drug Research Institute said the findings are based on a review of nearly three dozen studies on alcohol and prostate cancer, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

"We found that at one drink a day the risk was not significant but at two standard drinks, middle-aged men had about a 20 percent greater chance of developing prostate cancer. For four drinks a day, the chance was 25 percent higher and for six standard drinks a day, the risk was about 35 percent higher," co-author Tanya Chikritzhs said.
