Chocolate Cake With Vanilla Sauce

 

Ingredients:  
2 cups all purpose flour  
1-3/4 cups sugar 
1/2 cup cocoa powder 
1 Tbs. baking soda 
1 tsp. salt 
1 cup buttermilk 
2/3 cup vegetable oil 
1 tsp. vanilla extract 
1 egg, lightly beaten 
1 cup hot strong brewed coffee 
1 cup sugar 
2 Tbs. cornstarch 
1 cup water  
2 Tbs. unsalted butter 
1 tsp. vanilla extract  

Instructions: 
Preheat oven to 350°F. Sift first 5 ingredients together in a bowl. Add next 5 ingredients and combine. Batter will be thin. Pour into a buttered and floured 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake 30 minutes or until tester comes out clean when inserted in center. 

Combine sugar and cornstarch in a heavy saucepan. Add water. Bring to a boil over medium high heat, stirring constantly. When mixture begins to thicken, remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Serve sauce over cake.
