Canadians are planning their 2008 vacations around staying fit and healthy eating, a new poll shows.
Travelocity.ca's Travel Forecast found that 52 per cent of Canadians plan to choose destinations where walking or being outdoors is an option, while 35 per cent said they would find a way to be active on their vacations no matter what.
"In January, the focus is on diets and healthy eating as many Canadians work to stick to their New Year's resolution to lose weight and eat healthy," Jennifer Gaines, contributing editor for Travelocity.ca, said in a statement.
Maintaining a healthy diet while away is a concern for travel-minded Canadians this year, the survey shows.
Although 34 per cent of the 400 Canadians polled said they would do everything possible to avoid unhealthy foods while traveling and 18 percent said they will prepare their own food to make sure they eat well, it seems that Americans have Canadians beat.
According to the survey, 46 per cent of the 1,000 Americans who took part were committed to finding a way to be active on vacation, compared with only 35 percent of Canadians.
While 10 per cent of Canadians polled will plan this year's trips around active pursuits, twice as many Americans say they will do the same.
As for fast food, although 22 per cent of Canadians said they will avoid unhealthy eating, 39 per cent of Americans said they will also resist the temptation.
