ZURICH, Switzerland, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Two major supermarket chains in Switzerland are developing ways to offer customers products identified as climate-friendly.
Swissinfo said the supermarket chain Migros will offer a a CO2 label on laundry detergents that have been identified by the independent group Climatop as causing the least damage to the environment. A Migros official said the criteria will include production, transport, ingredients, methods of obtaining raw materials, and whether a product is biodegradable or how it can be disposed of. The supermarket will designate the best product in the range as a "CO2 champion."
The chain's main rival, Coop, said it has introduced its own climate protection measures, declaring which items have been delivered by air and trying to transport by ship when possible. A spokeswoman said it is investigating the best way to inform customers of the ecological impact of its products, Swissinfo said.
