Money magazine has
named San Francisco the best big city in which to live in America. Rochester,
Minn., was named the best small city.
Rounding out the top
three are Austin and New York for best big cities and Columbia, Mo., and
Boulder, Colo., for best small cities.
Money looked at demographic
and U.S. Census data in 46 different categories, then focused on those
things that matter most to their readers - economy, education, culture,
recreation, health and safety.
Three separate rankings
were also compiled for the best metropolitan areas in terms of crime, high
school graduation rates and future job growth.
The top finishers,
in order of ranking, are:
Lowest incident of
violent crime: Appleton, Wis.; Nashua, N.H.; Danbury, Conn.; Portsmouth,
N.H.; Fargo, N.D.
Best high school graduation
rate: State College, Pa.; Anchorage, Alaska; Des Moines, Iowa; Boulder,
Colo.; Minneapolis, Minn.
Best future job growth:
Las Vegas, Nev.; Punta Gorda, Fla.; Austin, Texas; Provo, Utah; Fayetteville,
Ark.
