26 Percent Make Holiday Marriage Proposals
One of every
four grooms in the United States proposes marriage during the holiday season,
a Modern Bride survey concludes.
November and
December account for 26 percent of marriage proposals, the survey of 1,131
brides concludes. Magazine publisher Fairchild Bridal Group estimates 2.1
million couples will get hitched this year with the average wedding cost
jumping to $26,327.
"It makes sense,"
said Rachel Weingarten, author of the upcoming "Hello Gorgeous."
"You gather
with the family, you feel that much closer to the person you're dating
and now you have an announcement to make," Weingarten told ABC News.
The Yankee Stadium
scoreboard accounted for 75 marriage proposals just this year.
During the past
14 years, the Santa Claus in Minneapolis' Holidazzle parade has popped
the question for would-be grooms 26 times, the report said.
