SEATTLE, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- At 95, Leon "Joss" Joslin of Seattle, a former teammate of President Gerald Ford and Jesse Owens, is used to being a champion.
Joslin recently won the world championship in discus for the 95 to 99 age group, setting a world record of 52 feet 8 inches for the age group at a meet in Redmond, Wash., The Seattle Times reported. He has held a number of other discus championships as he has aged.
A resident of a retirement complex, Joslin keeps in shape with "no sweat" workouts five times a week. These include walking on a treadmill and working on a machine to keep his arm muscles in shape.
Joslin was already an accomplished athlete in high school in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was captain of the basketball team and played football with Ford, who captained that team.
At Ohio State, Joslin was on a freshman track team with Owens, who, a few years later, became an Olympic gold medalist at the 1936 Berlin games.
Joslin has at least one more athletic goal, becoming world discus champion in the 100 to 105 group.
