Britons Over 50 Happier Than Ever

British government research has found that Britons over the age of 50 tend to describe themselves as happier than at any other time in their lives.

The research found that over-50s are increasingly using e-mail and Internet chat rooms to keep in touch and are optimistic about their health, The Mirror reported Tuesday.

The government's "Generation Xperience" campaign research found that nearly two-thirds of Britons over the age of 50 consider themselves happier than they were earlier in life and eight out of 10 believe their prospects for later life are better than those experienced by their parents, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Alistair Still, a 58-year-old mail carrier, said the best thing about his age "is getting treated with the respect a person of a mature age deserves, but still having the get up and go of a younger person. I get the best of both worlds. I have young friends and a good social life, and enjoy the grandchildren as well," The Mirror reported.
