Radio Songs Could Affect Driving Safety

Wagner's "Ride Of The Valkyries" tops the list as the most dangerous song to play while driving while Gary Jules' "Mad World" has been deemed the safest.

Scientists have found that listening to loud, fast music cuts a driver's reaction time by up to 20 percent, putting the driver at a greater risk of accident, Sky News reported Wednesday, with a Canadian research firm publishing a list of the safest and most dangerous songs by which to drive.

"It doesn't matter if you listen to opera, classical or the latest rave music," Conrad King, a consulting psychologist, said.

"It's the speed of the beat that counts."

King said that any song with more than 60 beats per minute impairs a driver's reaction time, suggesting that drivers choose easy-listening favorites, such as the 52-beat-a-minute 1970s classic "Always and Forever."

The top driving songs include "Another Day" by Lemar, "Too Lost In You" by the Sugababes, and "Come Away With Me" by Norah Jones.  Other tunes to avoid while driving include "Firestarter" by Prodigy and "Insomnia" by Faithless.
