VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 7 (UPI) -- Artwork painted by a golden retriever when he wasn't working as an assistant for his wheelchair-bound owner is up for auction in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Athens is a 5-year-old dog who turns lights on and off for his owner, Sherry Caves, along with picking things up she drops and pulling her up hills in her wheelchair.
Athens was trained by the Pacific Assistance Dogs Society, and Caves said she thought auctioning off the dog's paintings would be a good way to raise funds for the group.
She told The Province newspaper in Vancouver he's finished eight pieces. One of them resembles a cat, and another look like goldfish swimming.
Caves said her dog's been nicknamed "Salvador Doggy."
Jennifer Moir, PADS' manager of fundraising and volunteer programs said Athens will be the star of the May 10 auction at the at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown hotel in Burnaby.
"He will be at the front demonstrating how he paints," she said. "This is the first time that one of our dogs has done something like this."
